Big Wildlife Garden Competition 2011/2012 Terms and conditions
- The Big Wildlife Garden competition is open to residents of the UK, Channel Islands and Isle of Man, except for employees of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (“Defra”), Natural England, the Royal Horticultural Society (“RHS”), the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (“The Wildlife Trusts”) and the 47 local Wildlife Trusts. The competition is free to enter.
- The competition is being organised and promoted by The Wildlife Trusts and the Royal Horticultural Society, and is funded by Defra.
- Entrants must be over 18. In the case of the two categories of Educational Gardens and Community Gardens, some members of the group may be under 18, but the application must be made on behalf of the group by a group member or group leader who is over 18.
- The information explaining how to enter the competition forms part of these terms and conditions. Entrants to the competition are bound by of all these terms and conditions.
- Winners will be notified ahead of a prize giving ceremony, to be held at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show between 3-8 July 2012. One winning garden will be selected for each category. Only one individual winner per category (plus one guest) will be invited to attend the ceremony, and a contribution will be made towards travel and accommodation costs, which will be organised by The Wildlife Trusts.
- Each category winner will receive a prize package which will include: a certificate and plaque/trophy; attendance at a special ceremony and exclusive wildlife gardening masterclass at the RHS Hampton Court Palace Flower Show; and one year’s individual membership of both the winner’s local Wildlife Trust (or one of their choice) and RHS. No cash alternative will be provided and the prize is non transferrable.
- Competition judges will include Sarah Raven (broadcaster, writer, horticulturist), Dr Steve Head (chair of the Wildlife Gardening Forum), and experts from The Wildlife Trusts and the RHS. The judges’ decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding this matter.
- Entries to the competition must be made via the competition page of the Big Wildlife Garden website. Entrants must become registered users of the Big Wildlife Garden website in order to access the entry form. There can be only one entry per garden.
- There are six competition categories: small residential, large residential, new residential, educational, community and business. Entrants should choose which category to enter, only one entry per registered user will be allowed. More details on each category are included on the competition home page (http://www.bigwildlifegarden.org.uk/wildlife-garden-competition).
- We reserve the right not to award a winner in any category where, in the opinion of the judges, no entry/garden has yet reached a minimum standard.
- Entries to the competition may be used as case studies of public wildlife gardening activities, and the benefits it can bring to wildlife and people. Entrants may also be required to take part in media activity surrounding the competition.
- Winners may be required to take part in publicity surrounding the competition results and awards ceremony including but not limited to, publicity photographs and video recording at the ceremony.
- Images submitted by the entrant as part of their application will remain copyright of the person taking the photograph. However, submitted photographs may be used to illustrate case studies of that garden, and images of the winning gardens may be used in publicity around the competition both online and offline.
- Personal or other information that entrants provide to the competition will be governed by the Big Wildlife Garden website Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
- Entries must be received by midnight (in Great Britain) on the closing date of 20 May 2012.
- The winner of each category will be chosen in June 2012 and notified by email as soon as possible thereafter.
- The winners will be announced on the Big Wildlife Garden website by the date of the awards ceremony (which will take place between 3 and 8 July) or as soon as possible thereafter.
- The competition will be governed by English law.
- No responsibility is taken for entries lost, delayed, misdirected or incomplete due to server functions or failures, virus, bugs, technical problems or traffic congestion on the internet or any other causes outside the control of The Wildlife Trusts or RHS. Proof of entry is not proof of receipt.
- Events may occur that render the competition itself, or the awarding of the prizes, impossible due to reasons beyond the control of The Wildlife Trusts and RHS. Accordingly they may at their absolute discretion vary or amend the competition, and the entrant agrees that no liability shall be attached to The Wildlife Trusts or RHS as a result thereof.
